Abstract:

Supporting Young Children with Disabilities in Inclusive Early Childhood Settings: The IECSE Service Delivery Model, Components & Roles- Session #2

This session includes a brief review of the laws, regulations, and research relevant to the inclusion of young children with disabilities within early childhood settings, as well as an introduction to the new policy statement issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Education.  In addition, this session provides an introduction to the Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education (IECSE) service delivery model, the research behind the model, the rationale for adoption, the key features, and the alignment with RI’s vision for supporting all young children within high quality early learning programs.  Finally, the majority of the time will be dedicated to understanding the role of the general early childhood teacher as well as the considerations for partnering with the local school district.
