Next Steps: Using RIELDS to Inform Families About

Abstract:
Throughout this 3 hour course, we will be zoned in on preparing pre kindergarten children and their families for the transition to kindergarten. We will focus on the RIELDS 60 month benchmark as a way to inform thinking about readiness and appropriate expectations around what children should know, understand and be able to do at this point. We will discuss strategies used to create ongoing communication with families focused on their child’s transition and readiness to kindergarten. During the course of the three hours we will use the RIELDS to study and engage in meaningful conversations and group activities specifically designed to provide understanding of appropriate expectations for children and their families preparing for kindergarten.
