Next Steps: Art in Early Childhood: Curriculum Con

Target Audience:
Family Child Care Providers, Teacher Assistants, Lead Teachers and Education Coordinators

Abstract:
Art has traditionally been an important part of early childhood programs. Explore how an arts-based curriculum fosters Froebel's theory of "all-sided" development in every child: socio-emotional, cognitive, motor and language. Using reproductions of famous paintings from artists like Van Gogh, Monet and O'Keefe, each participant will create, write and develop an art based lesson plan, that is aligned to RIELDS, that can be used in their classrooms. A variety of assorted sensory-based art materials will be explored. Finally, exploring how to engage children and families in creative experiences like visiting a local museum or creating an art center in the classroom that meet the needs of the whole child should be the objective of an early childhood art program.
