2/14/2012  [RIDE] - Today's WebEx and March 9th deadline  Deanna Raphael-State
Good morning, Here’s the WebEx info for today’s meeting: URL: ride.webex.com Time: 9:30 am Host's Email: helpdesk@ride.ri.gov Meeting number: 683 839 922 Meeting password: Info2011 Audio conference: 218-486-1611; passcode 4357 We will discuss any TCS questions you have and also discuss the following deadline that went out in the Commissioner’s memo on Friday. In brief, home language and addresses for IEP students must be uploaded by 3pm on March 9th. Districts asked to update Student Information System data on students with disabilities by March 9 – Action Item Please see this notice from our Office of Student, Community, and Academic Supports: We are preparing to conduct the annual Special Education Statewide Parent Survey, entitled the School Efforts to Partner with Parents Scale (SEPPS). This is a federally mandated activity of our State Performance Plan, Indicator 8 (Parent Involvement). The SEPPS measures and publicly reports the “percentage of parents who report that schools facilitate parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.” Each year, parents of Rhode Island children aged three through graduation or age 21 whose children have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) receive the Special Education Statewide Parent Survey in their mailbox. This spring will represent the 6th consecutive administration of this measure. Maximizing parent participation is critical to ensuring that parent voices are counted; that school departments and RIDE obtain fair, balanced, and useful feedback from the approximately 28,000 Rhode Island families whose children receive special education services within our public education system; and that we meet compliance targets. Here is where we need your assistance: RIDE contracts with a survey vendor who administers the direct mailing of the survey. Each student’s home address and parent’s primary language for printed material is utilized for this mailing. This information is extracted directly from the Enrollment Census Collection and cross-referenced with the Special Education Census to confirm that the student has an IEP. RIDE transmits this data to our survey vendor to enable the survey distribution. Therefore, we respectfully request that district personnel update their student-address and primary-language information in their Student Information System. Data managers will be required to submit the Enrollment Census Enrollment and Address files by close of business on Friday, March 9. Please let us know if you have any questions (helpdesk@ride.ri.gov or 222-8400), -Deanna
