Definition: The general racial category which most clearly reflects the individual's recognition of his or her community or with which the individual most identifies. (Note: These categories reflect the revised Standards for the Classification of Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity (Statistical Policy Directives No. 15) by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). These categories do not reflect the reporting requirements of all Department programs. An alternative would be to list the options as separate data elements and have a yes/no option for each one.]
