RIDE is changing the face of the Network Meetings for the 2017-18 school year. In the fall of 2016, RIDE convened a committee of superintendents, assistant superintendents, curriculum directors, and community partners to study and respond to legislation sponsored by Representative Greg Amore. Recommendations offered by that group, along with a small grant that RIDE received from CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers), the Division of Teaching and Learning developed a strong theme related to curriculum definition and development and high quality curriculum materials. We will use some of our time together during upcoming meetings to further develop and discuss that theme. The plan for 2017-18 includes four expert speakers in this area including David Steiner, from John's Hopkins University, Kate Gerson from Unbound Education, David Liben from Student Achievement Partners, and Eric Hirsch from EdReports. We're enthusiastically embracing this change of format design and even more importantly, the effort to make the group inclusive of other stakeholders. In the spirit of learning together, we'd like to invite our regular network participants to expand the district or LEA's representation by including their special education directors, English learner directors, superintendents or directors and union presidents.
