CCSS for Mathematics: Implementation of Content an

Target Audience:
Mathematics educators grades 6-8

Abstract:
A variety of documents have been created to assist teachers in aligning their instruction to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). This session will use the PARCC Model Content Frameworks and learning progressions to support teachers in designing instruction that integrates content with the eight mathematical practices from the CCSSM. Working in grade span groups, K-2, 3-5, 6-8, participants will deconstruct selected standards, investigate the major clusters of standards at their grade level as defined by PARCC, dissect the Standards for Mathematical Practice, and discuss implications for instruction. The session will culminate with teachers working with grade level tasks that integrate the content, practices, and visual representations called for by the Common Core.  Participants should bring a copy of the CCSS and their current text or instructional resource.
